Alabama Credit Union is owned by its members and run by a board of directors you elect. We recognize the importance our members place on privacy and the security of their personal information. Our goal is to protect your personal information in every way that we interact with you – whether it’s on the telephone, in our lobby, at one of our ATMs, or on the Internet.
We think it is important for you to be informed of the policies, procedures, and security measures we have in place to safeguard your personal and confidential information. As required by Federal statute, we have developed this statement to help you understand the steps we take to protect your sensitive personal information, and are required by law to give you this privacy notice. Throughout our Web site, you will have access to our Privacy Statement at any time.
Please read below to understand more about how Alabama Credit Union protects your privacy, and contact us with any questions. Privacy questions should be directed to Kayce Bell, (205) 348-2321, or Steve Swofford, (205) 348-7050.
Information That We Collect and Disclose About You: We collect and may disclose all nonpublic, personal information about you from the following sources: Alabama Credit Union only discloses non-public personal information about you as is required in the normal conduct of your financial business. That information may come from the following sources: » Information we receive from you on membership and loan applications, e-mails, or other forms. » Information about your transactions with us and others. » Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency.
We may disclose information we collect about you under circumstances permitted or required by law. These disclosures typically include information to process transactions on your behalf, conduct the operations of our credit union, follow your instructions as you authorize, or protect the security of our financial records.
If you terminate your relationship with Alabama Credit Union, we will not share information we have collected about you, except as permitted or required by law.
How We Protect Your Information Alabama Credit Union has developed strict policies and procedures to safeguard your personal information. We restrict access to nonpublic, personal information about you to those employees who have a specific business purpose in utilizing your data. Our employees are trained in the importance of maintaining confidentiality and member privacy. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations and leading industry practices to safeguard your nonpublic, personal information.
About “opting out” Because Alabama Credit Union does not sell member’s private information, we are not required to provide you an opt-out opportunity (“opting out” is a member’s ability to choose to have none of their information shared with anyone). As you’ve read, it is necessary for us to share certain information about members’ accounts in order to conduct transactions – for example, ordering checks, obtaining credit history, clearing checks, processing credit or debit card transactions, etc. Recent media reports have incorrectly advised consumers that all financial institutions must provide an opt-out notice and that consumers should send one to every financial institution with whom they do business. Actually, many financial institutions – such as Alabama Credit Union – do not conduct the type of information-sharing activities that require an opt-out notice be given to you under the new law. If you send an opt-out notice to Alabama Credit Union, we regret that we have no choice except to close your Alabama Credit Union account since the only information we share is necessary to complete your account transactions.
We are proud of our long-established position of protecting your private information before the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (“privacy act”) became law, and we will continue to safeguard your privacy by sharing only necessary information with reputable third parties whose services are necessary to service your account transactions.
Revised June 1, 2002; replaces policy dated March 31, 2001.
